Foothill College Physical Sciences and Engineering Center wins highest honor in the AIA East Bay Awards program, September 2013

The new Physical Sciences & Engineering Center at Foothill College earns AIA EB Honor Award.

The Foothill College Physical Sciences and Engineering Center marks a major expansion to the historically significant campus, with the goal creating a new nexus and state-of-the-art learning center for science and engineering beyond the existing boundaries of the historic inner campus. At the heart of the new center lies the Science Courtyard which serves as an organizational element for three separate pavilions: the single-story Commons and Classroom buildings and the two-story Laboratory building. The center includes six 45-seat classrooms and two 72-seat lecture rooms in the Classroom building; nine 32-seat labs and one 32-seat multi-purpose classroom in the Lab; and a café, conference room, faculty offices and break-out study spaces in the Commons. The new center integrates elements of the old campus with new technology, new materials, and a new twist on the historical architectural expression, balancing requirements from both advocates of the traditional and proponents of the modern.
