This assignment was the first in a series of recommended renovation projects evolving from an Implementation Plan to consolidate services between three separate campuses. Projects consisted of updating an existing Postpartum unit for use as a Cardiovascular Telemetry unit, developing an arrival point and Family Resource Center. Following the hospital’s intention to create a new identity for their Cardiovascular Center of Excellence, the new Cardiovascular Family Resource Center serves as a welcoming oasis for families to gather. Before, visitors to this area stepped off the elevator and were greeted by a blank wall and confusing signage. In the middle of the three wing units was a former neonatal intensive care unit. This area was reborn with an open floor plan and soothing interior design treatments reflecting a water theme in color and circulation patterns.

Now, visitors to Cardiovascular Services immediately find their way to the Family Resource Center through architectural cues, such as curved walls painted in a refreshing blue tone and patterns in the flooring that lead them to the entrance. The new center offers diverse spaces and opportunities for family and friends to manage the stress associated with illness.

The project also entailed studies and designs for refurbishing a surgery pre- and post-operative unit with surgery waiting area, and a cardiopulmonary unit.
