/ Oakland Airport Terminal II Expansion

This free-standing commuter terminal was designed to meet increasing passenger demand into the 21st century. Terminal II operates as a self-contained airport and includes a full complement of amenities such as a restaurant and bar, gift shop, traveler services, and observation areas. The primary goal of the client was to offer passengers the utmost in convenience for travel. The goal was met by a design that minimizes passenger travel from curbside to passenger gate. Passengers enter a high bay area, like an open-air market where ticketing, baggage claim, car rental, and other airport activities are conveniently located. Clearing the central security checkpoint, passengers head via escalator or elevator up to the gatehold level which offers panoramic views of the San Francisco skyline and bay. Natural light is incorporated into the design both to reduce operational costs and to create a spacious and inviting environment.
