/ Sutter Health ABSMC Outpatient Imaging Department

This project involved major demolition and renovation of a 10,000 s.f., 25 year old inpatient/outpatient imaging department to create a new imaging center that brought together modalities and staff from two different locations on the hospital campus. Special care was taken to create a non-threatening, pleasant patient environment as well as one that was aesthetically pleasing and efficient for staff.

Different ways of seeing light was the overarching focus of the design, playing off the concept of the various types of light and energy emanating from the imaging equipment in the department. The design intent was to give the new outpatient imaging center a well-branded inspiring front-door presence. The technology of the space is softened by many passive diversions of light and texture treatments, including art work.

As there is an outpatient surgical service below the area that was renovated additional measures were taken to minimize disruption to essential hospital services (electrical, plumbing, fire protection, mechanical), provide for proper infection control as well as dust and noise control.

Close collaboration with the contractor from the beginning of this project and frequent meetings with all sub-contractors and consultants allowed this project to proceed smoothly and be completed under the estimated construction cost.
