Ratcliff has undertaken several renovation and accessibility upgrade projects for the City of Emeryville. Highlighted below are three recent projects:
Pool Locker Room Renovation – Renovation and accessibility upgrades to 610 sf of existing locker rooms serving a 3,350 sf pool. Since the pool remained a part of the Emery High School campus, the remodel project was required to follow DSA review, approval, and inspection procedures. The pool also fell under the jurisdiction of
the Alameda County Health Department. In addition to project review by multiple jurisdictions, another challenge was that of providing accessibility upgrades to the existing elevated pool deck. Despite limited remodel scope, we were able to provide a universally accessible project through upgrades to entrance gates, signage, drinking fountains, and a carefully planned locker room design.
Senior Center Renovation – The project included a building evaluation survey and report for Veterans Memorial Hall (circa 1930) that currently houses the Emeryville Senior Center. The survey and report evaluated the building and its systems in their current state and recommended much needed repairs and accessibility upgrades, all the while maintaining the building’s art deco character and working within a very tight budget. Ratcliff prepared as-built CAD drawings and surveyed the Center’s director and City project manager to produce a prioritized project scope list. From this report, various miscellaneous improvements for implementation including roof replacement, seismic improvements, accessibility upgrades, etc. were identified.
Fire Station Improvements – Ratcliff performed an assessment of existing conditions and provided recommendations to the City for corrective measures to mitigate water damage. During our assessment we also discovered the need to update restrooms to meet ADA code requirements. In addition, after working closely with firefighters
to understand their needs, the fire station will undergo a new kitchen and lounge expansion on the second floor. Additional improvements include roof replacement and the integration of solar panels.
