NorthBay Health | Welcome Pavilion

The NorthBay Medical Center Expansion project (NBXP) includes renovation and expansion of NorthBay Healthcare’s existing 3-story acute care hospital. The $159 million renovation also included the construction of a separate 1-story, 4,500 sf, Welcome Pavilion (non-OSHPD and the first project to be completed). Its entry location on axis with the entry driveway and main entrance into the Emergency Department is highly visible from the main street. With a light airy, folded ceiling sought to provide an effortless way to bring visitors in from the campus parking lot into the inviting lobby space with warm wood finished ceiling, wood finished interior walls and a finish palette on the furniture finishes that promote healing and renewal. The canopy beams taper as the roof extends out and upward beyond the perimeter walls into a blade like edge. To gain as much light and view as possible of the surrounding campus, Ratcliff enclosed the perimeter walls with curtain wall system with solar fins and motorized shading devices to control glare and reduce solar heat gain. The overall patient comfort and wayfinding experience is enhanced with this space that invites interaction and optimism.Although small in size, the visitor center brings together a number of design strategies and advances patient care by providing a concierge experience with the one to one patient interaction for registration and financial counselling prior to entry into the main hospital.
